And animate it solely with CSS using a combination of relative positioning and padding on each tab.
These tabs can accommodate text of variable widths, have a raised tab for the current page in a different colour or shade and tabs which raise and change colour or shade on mouseover.The CSS can be configured to disable the current page effect and the raising of tabs on mouseover.
